Close de La Vigne du Palais du Pape

The only intra-muros AOC vineyard in France, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Clos de la Vigne at the Palais des Papes offers a breathtaking view over the historic city and the Rhône River from the top of the Rocher des Doms.

Owned by the City of Avignon, the vineyard has been managed by the Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône since the first vines were planted in 1997. Thanks to the support of many partners, they ensure the annual upkeep and preservation of this plot.

With unwavering commitment for over 20 years to the maintenance and conservation of the Clos de la Vigne at the Palais des Papes, the Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône replanted the vineyard and restored the area after waterproofing works had required uprooting the vines.

Wishing to create strong ties between the northern and southern regions of the Côtes du Rhône, the Compagnons planted around 540 vines from both parts of the valley. This was done with support from students of the Lycée Viticole d’Orange—a choice that respects the harmony of Rhône grape varieties while offering a unique chromatic and aromatic palette: a true educational showcase of the terroir. The guiding thread of the Compagnons des Côtes du Rhône, culture, holds an essential place in all their actions.

The Clos de la Vigne at the Palais des Papes, showcase of the Côtes du Rhône, thus becomes a true place of exchange and encounter centered on a passion for the vine and wine—for the benefit of future generations. Numerous winegrowers and other wine professionals, both young and old, French and international, beginners or seasoned amateurs, are invited to participate in events throughout the year aimed at sharing the know-how of viticulture.

Future wine professionals can use the Clos du Palais des Papes vineyard as a training ground to practice various essential vineyard tasks: learning the art of pruning, harvesting, tying, thinning, soil work, and more.

Discovery and new experiences will be at the heart of this emblematic cultural and historical site in Avignon, the capital of the Côtes du Rhône.[/retweet]
