The vineyard was planted in 1994 on one hectare of land facing the river that had been used as a vegetable garden for nearly 100 years. There is evidence that part of the land was once used for grape cultivation. Early maps reveal that the area was known as the Chinese Gardens in the early 20th century. We also planted olive trees, lemon trees, and fig trees as a tribute to the later Italian owners of the garden land during the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. Located 4 km from the city center, the cultivated vineyard land is one of the last remaining plots still used for agricultural purposes near the city.
We are very pleased to have been able to preserve this historic agricultural and viticultural connection to the land of vineyards and the early wine history of Melbourne.
