UVA welcomes its new members!

January 2025 – The Urban Vineyards Association continues to expand its global network with the addition of three new members: Eichhorn Winery in Vienna, Studley Park Vineyard in Melbourne, and Vinhedo Lacustre in Brasilia.
With these new additions, the Association now spans 10 countries across 4 continents, representing a total of 21 urban vineyards.
"Urban vineyards are a growing global trend, and nearly every country with suitable conditions for viticulture will have some within its cities," said Nicola Purrello, President of U.V.A. "Expanding into new countries and continents is essential to our mission of connecting these rare yet precious vineyards, often nestled and hidden within urban landscapes."

First World Day of Urban Vinyards

October 27, 2024, marked the inaugural World Day of Urban Vineyards, an initiative promoted by our Association to celebrate and raise awareness of the growing trend of urban vineyards and their vital role in creating healthier, more sustainable cities.
To commemorate the occasion, visual arts competitions were organized in Venice, Barcelona, Catania, Los Angeles, Bergamo, and Thessaloniki, transforming urban vineyards into vibrant hubs of creativity, with photographers, painters, and illustrators capturing their unique charm.
Elsewhere, urban vineyards celebrated the arrival of autumn on a more intimate scale, fostering local engagement and spreading appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of vineyards in urban environments.
The Association is already preparing for the Second World Day of Urban Vineyards, set to take place in October 2025, with even more exciting initiatives on the horizon.

Already in the 12th century, the ladies of the Montmartre Abbey planted the first vines and developed wine production. Before urbanization and housing flourished on the Butte, three quarters of it was covered with vines, which disappeared completely in 1928 and then were reborn in 1933. Since 1934, every second weekend of October, Montmartre celebrates its winemaking tradition and welcomes the arrival of the new cuvée of his vineyard.
