On October 27, 2024, the International Urban Vineyard Day was celebrated for the first time, marking a meaningful milestone for our Association and for urban viticulture worldwide. This inaugural edition highlighted the growing presence of vineyards within cities and their contribution to more resilient, sustainable, and culturally rich urban landscapes.
To celebrate the day, members across the globe opened their urban vineyards to creativity. Photography, painting, and illustration contests took place in cities such as Venice, Barcelona, Catania, Los Angeles, Bergamo, and Thessaloniki, where artists interpreted the unique relationship between vines, city life, and community. The resulting works offer a powerful visual narrative of how vineyards continue to shape urban identity in unexpected and inspiring ways.
In other locations, the celebration unfolded on a more intimate scale. Urban vineyards became gathering spaces to welcome the autumn season, connect with local communities, and share stories that underline the historical, social, and cultural value of cultivating vines in the heart of the city.
As we look ahead, the Association is already preparing the second edition of the International Urban Vineyard Day, scheduled for October 2025. Building on the energy and creativity of its first year, the next edition promises new initiatives, broader participation, and an even stronger collective voice for urban vineyards around the world.
