Campus Grapes

Campus Grapes

Campus Grapes is a pioneering hi-tech urban vineyard located within the main campus of the Politecnico di Torino, representing the first large-scale application of the Citiculture model. Spanning approximately 1,000 square meters and composed of over 700 modular, potted vines, the vineyard seamlessly integrates into paved urban spaces while combining agricultural heritage with advanced technology. Planted exclusively with PIWI fungus-resistant varieties, Pinot Kors and Pinot Iskra and equipped with IoT sensors for real-time environmental and plant monitoring, Campus Grapes functions as a true smart vineyard. Conceived by Luca Balbiano and developed in partnership with the Politecnico di Torino, the project serves as an open-air laboratory for agritech education, sustainability research, and ESG-driven urban regeneration, demonstrating how productive green infrastructure can enhance biodiversity, foster social inclusion, and reshape the future of cities worldwide.
